Each game is a themed lesson on an important chess topic. The bulk of the book addresses the fight for advantage and initiative in the middlegame, but there are also chapters focusing on opening ideas, endgame play and human factors.

Publicada originalmente en 1907, esta novela supuso un escándalo en su época al tratarse de las supuestas memorias de un asesino judío. La historia de un criminal emparentado con la aristocracia inglesa que decide lograr un título nobiliario eliminando a todos los que le preceden en la línea sucesoria. Mordaz y efectiva, Israel Rank ha sido recientemete reeditada en el Reino Unido por Faber&Faber y Cavalier Classic y fue llevada al cine en 1946 por Robert Hamer con el título Kind Hearts and Coronets, en una película donde Alec Guiness interpreta ocho papeles diferentes. Recientemente, en 2013, se ha estrenado en Londres un musical basado en esta obra. Memorias de un asesino supone un análisis certero de la condición humana, porque el hecho de que el protagonista sea un asesino no le impide gozar de una enorme claridad de ideas, que disecciona brutalmente las sombras de la clase alta británica. Tampoco se queda atrás en el varapalo al antisemitismo de la sociedad británica. Sin caer en la humorada de la versión cinematográfica, el libro esconde un venenoso sentido del humor narrado con un inglés limpio y claro. Una delicia para matar el tiempo del verano.

Rousseau fonde sa pensée linguistique et musicale sur la nécessité de réconcilier la plénitude des origines et le savoir.
Se profile alors le rêve d'un art régénéré : la poésie parle à l'esprit, la musique sollicite l'oreille, la peinture réjouit les yeux ; la réunion des trois renoue avec les premières fêtes, à l'époque de l'unité de la parole et de la mélodie. C'est à un chef-d'ouvre de la civilisation, l'opéra, que Rousseau confie la mission de provoquer ce retour à l'origine, qui est aussi annulation du temps.
